Every maker should have Autodesk’s lightweight 3D modeling program Meshmixer in their toolkit. According to the software’s website, 3D objects make it simple to edit, add, splice, merge, and more with models. The program contains sculpting and solid modeling capabilities, but its primary function is to adjust, fix, or improve existing 3D models. Despite being straightforward, the tool selection provides enough diversity for you to become thoroughly accustomed to the tools you will need for either type of 3D modeling.

 Meshmixer was explicitly created for 3D printing, so in addition to designing and fixing 3D models in the software, you can also use it to orient models, add support structures, and utilize a range of special optimization tools to get your design ready for printing. The program is now a little outdated and is not being updated, but it is free and will always be helpful.
